Sinead and I have always been passionate about travel, and when we first started dating we decided that one day we would travel the world together. We have both traveled some, Sinead in Europe and myself in Central America, but no trips on the same magnitude as this one. To plan this journey we knew it would take time, patience, and lots of money. 

When the initial discussions of our big trip started, we had both just started at our respective jobs (me as a computer programmer, Sinead as a graphic artist). For us to be able to further our careers on our return, we knew that we had to keep our jobs for at least two years. We set a deadline date of May 2005 (exactly two years later) and we started putting away part of our salaries every month hoping to acquire enough for our year long trip. As we figured out ways to save money, our spending went down and our savings went up. 

Our plans were delayed a bit when we decided to get married in June 2005 and we had a few more months to contribute to our travel fund as we planned our wedding. Thanks to the generosity of our family and friends we were able to set our departure date for August 1 2005. While we don’t know how long we will be on the road for, or exactly where our journeys will take us, we are both happy to be living out the dream that we spent so long planning.
